Player Profile

Charlie Farrell was a solid and dependable half-back flanker who was regarded as a clever player with 'clean' ground play. He was a good left-foot kick and great mark.

He came from Williamstown Juniors and Essendon had to fight off South Melbourne for his services.

He just missed out on selection in the 1923 premiership side but he made up for it by being a key member of the 1924 premiership team on the half-back line. He was also selected in the State side in 1921 and 1922.

Nicknamed "Chooka", he was brawny and freckle-faced.

After leaving Essendon, he became captain-coach of Yarraville.

Farrell died on 14th March, 1972.
