Player Profile

Maurie Edwards was a rugged, well-built defender who joined the Seconds in 1939 from Moonee Imperials.

He played one game in 1942 and four more in 1943.

His football career was interrupted by service with the Army's 10 Field Ambulance during World War II. On his return, he couldn't get back on to Essendon's senior list so he played with Essendon R.S.L.

In 1947, he joined North Melbourne where he played three games before returning to Essendon R.S.L.

He then played with Golden Point from 1952 to 1954, winning the award for Best and Fairest in the Ballarat League in 1952.

He died on 26th February, 2007.

[Note: His Army enlistment papers give his birthdate as 17th September 1923. His service number was VX107502.]
