Brian Donohoe was a ruckman and back pocket who found it hard to find a regular spot in the Seniors. He came from Ascot Youth Centre to the Seconds in 1955 and had won the award for Best and Fairest in the E.D.F.L. junior competition in 1954.

Donohoe won the Seconds Best and Fairest award in 1956 and again in 1960. He also won the Seniors Most Unselfish Player award in 1958.

After leaving Essendon, he was captain-coach of Scottsdale in Tasmania from 1961 to 1966 and was a member of the Tasmanian State side in 1965 and their Carnival side in 1966.

He returned in 1967 to take over as captain of the Seconds to help the younger players and then in 1968 he was cleared to Daylesford as captain-coach.

He later joined the Club committee from 1980 and was chairman of selectors from1980 until 1986. He served as committeeman and later, director, until 1996.

Brian Donohoe was instrumental in the development of the Essendon Football Club Hall of Fame which opened in 1996.
