Bert "Red" Daykin was a follower and forward who came from South Bendigo.

He was in the back pocket in the losing 1908 Grand Final side.

When he left Essendon, he joined Western Australian club Miners Rovers from 1911 to 1913 and he was selected in that State's Carnival side in 1911.

He then rejoined South Bendigo in early 1914 before moving to New South Wales in 1915.

Bert Daykin came from a strong footballing family. His three brothers also played League football: Percy for Carlton (134 games, 1914-1921), Richard for Collingwood (21 games, 1908 and 1910) and Robert for South Melbourne (1 game, 1904).
