Les Woodfield was a rugged player who could play as a defender or a forward. He had a good burst of speed and was an excellent kick.

He came to Essendon from Williamstown where he played in 1920 and 1922.

Woodfield was selected at centre half-forward in the League team which played Ballarat in 1921. In all, he represented Victoria eight times.

He then transferred to South Melbourne in 1923 and played 76 games from 1923 to 1927.

Woodfield's brother, Clarrie, played one game with Essendon in 1921.

Les Woodfield died on 1st April, 1974.
