Player Profile

Norm Waugh joined Essendon from Collegian Amateurs.

He was a star goalsneak who was the champion Association goalkicker in 1896 with 29 goals and runner-up in the League goalkicking list in 1897 with 23 goals.

He played in Essendon's first League game in 1897, and later in the year was a key member of the premiership team.

A short player, with an excellent long drop kick, he went to South Africa in 1899 to become the chief executive officer of the National Mutual Company. He later returned home in 1906, suggesting that there was a future for the game in South Africa.

Waugh died on 6th August, 1934.
