Rowley Watt was a superb small man and the last of the famed "mosquito fleet" to retire. He was only163 cm tall and weighed only 61 kg, but he was a dashing half-forward, wingman and rover. He had a great leap for his size and was a beautiful kick.
He played with Rochester in 1919 and 1920, then with Essendon 'A' in the VFA in 1921 before joining the League club in 1922.
He starred on the wing in Essendon's 1923 premiership team and was on the half-forward flank in the 1924 premiership win.
Watt scored Essendon's equal second most Brownlow Medal votes in 1925 and was selected in the League side against Bendigo in 1922. He was the players' representative on the Committee in 1928 and 1930.
He returned to Rochester after retiring from Essendon where he owned his own shoe store which he was still running when he died on 27th July, 1970.
His brother, Rod, played with Essendon at the same time.
