Dave Walsh was a talented full-forward with Essendon. He headed Essendon's goalkicking in 1919 with 15 goals, which included five goals out of the team's total of eight in Round 6 against Geelong.

Walsh played only one game in 1920, in Round 2 against Melbourne, then joined Essendon 'A' in the Association.

He then developed into a fine full-back and joined North Melbourne playing there from 1922 to 1927 playing 47 games for them in the VFL (North Melbourne joined the VFL in 1925). He represented Victoria in 1925, 1926 and 1927, and became one of the best full-backs to ever represent North Melbourne.

His football career was ended by a serious knee injury in 1927.

Walsh worked as an accountant with the Commonwealth Government until he retired in 1963.

He died on 4th August,1975, at the age of 76.
