Player Profile

George Vautin was a splendid rover and forward in Essendon's early years, renowned for his dodging wizardry.

He came from City FC Launceston in 1890 where he had been a star player at half-back. He had played senior football with City when he was only 13 years old and represented Tasmania against Victoria in 1889.

Vautin made his debut for Essendon in 1892 when the Club was still in the VFA and was a leading member in three of Essendon's four consecutive premiership sides in 1892, 1893 and 1894. The Club had won its first premiership in 1891.

He won the Champion of The Colony award in 1895 - the fourth time an Essendon player had won this award. He also played inter-colonial football in 1893.

Vautin was a member of Essendon's first League side in 1897 and was one of the stars in the premiership success of that year.

He was selected in 1994 as one of Essendon's Top 60 Players.

Vautin was also a fine cricketer and played cricket for Victoria.

George Vautin died on 9th January, 1949.
