Bill Valli was a rover from Collingwood where he played 17 games in 1979. Prior to that he played with West Perth from 1969 and had represented Western Australia. He won three best and fairest with West Perth and was named in their Team of the Century.

He played one game with Essendon in late 1980. In that year he won the Gardiner Medal for Best and Fairest in the League Reserves, despite only playing nine games, and was also Essendon's Reserves Best and Fairest .

Valli returned to Western Australia in 1981 and played with Subiaco in 1981 and 1982.
