Andrew Ukovic was recruited as a 17 year-old from the Under 18 competition where he played for the Northern Knights. He played one full year in the Reserves before getting his chance to play seniors against Fremantle in Western Australia. He played mainly up in the forward line, where he was seen as a goal sneak.
He was delisted from Essendon after injuries and illness limited his opportunities and he joined Collingwood in 2000 after a three-way trade between Essendon, Hawthorn and Collingwood. Essendon secured Jonathan Robran and pick 40 which they used to draft future Crichton Medallist, David Hille.
When he played for Collingwood in the 2000 Anzac Day game, he became the first player to play in that iconic game for both Essendon and Collingwood. Coincidentally, they were both losses.
Ukovic played some excellent games but was again injury-plagued in 2001 and was delisted by Collingwood at the end of the year.
