Jimmy Sullivan was born in Maryborough but came to Essendon through the Williamstown Juniors and before that, Flemington CYMS.
He was a fine, speedy, wingman and half-forward who was a real football character with his brushed back hair. Although he was small and light, he thrilled supporters with his accurate kicking from the wing.
Sullivan was Essendon's vice-captain in 1923 but was not selected in the winning Grand Final team that year. However he made amends in 1924 when he was part of the great "mosquito fleet" centreline with Jack Garden and Charlie May. He played on the wing in the 1924 premiership win. He also played in the State side in 1920 and 1923.
He played the first game of 1925 then transferred to Melbourne where he played six games later that same season.
Jimmy Sullivan died on the 1st May, 1983.
