SHORTEN, Teddy

Teddy "Diddy" Shorten was a wingman and half-forward from North Melbourne where he played six games from 1925 to 1926.

He played five games with Essendon in late 1926, including the Grand Final which Essendon lost to Melbourne by three points.

He spent the following year with Cheltenham.

He later turned to VFL umpiring and ran the boundary between 1930 and 1931 in 12 games and was a goal umpire from 1939 to 1949, officiating in 144 games.

He was a cousin of George "Titch" Shorten, a brilliant Essendon wingman and rover of the 1920s.

Teddy Shorten died on 9th July, 1949.
