Andrew Rogers, nicknamed "Buck" after the cartoon character, was drafted to Essendon from Woodville in South Australia with pick 6 in the 1987 National Draft. He had played 63 games with Woodville, represented South Australia and selected in the 1987 All-Australian team. He credited his coach, Malcolm Blight, as being his biggest influence.
He caught the attention of recruiters by having shut Dermott Brereton out of the state-of-origin game between South Australia and Victoria in 1987.
He was a solid defender at either full-back or half-back, but could only manage eight games at Essendon in 1988. He was then traded to Geelong, where he played 75 games, including the losing 1992 Grand Final.
After leaving Geelong Rogers returned to Adelaide in 1993 and joined his old club Woodville which had merged with West Torrens. He played in their inaugural premiership that year and captained the club from 1995 to 2000. He won their best and fairest award in 1993, 1995 and 1996.
He coached the North Shore Bombers in 2022. They played in the Grand Final but lost, the third time he had been involved in a losing Grand Final.
Rogers was inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
