Almond Richards, known as "Nuts", was a half-back and follower who came to Essendon from Eaglehawk.
He played the first four games of season 1936 for a win against North Melbourne followed by three consecutive losses to St Kilda, Carlton and Collingwood. He then left Essendon two weeks later and returned to Eaglehawk.
After a spate of injuries in May 1937, Essendon coach Baggott and secretary Lee, visited Eaglehawk and arranged for Richards to return in three weeks later but there is no record that he did return.
He played with his old club, Eaglehawk, and was captain-coach in 1946 before becoming an umpire in the Bendigo League. He continued in that role for many years.
He worked for the Victorian Railways for fifty years before retiring in 1976.
Almond Richards died on 27th November, 1992.
