Joseph Cornelius Oakley came to Essendon from Sunbury as a half-forward and rover.
Oakley was nicknamed ‘Whippy’ and, although short for a League player, he was strongly built.
His only games for Essendon were in Rounds 4 and 5 in 1934, for a win against Hawthorn and a loss to Richmond. He kicked a goal in both his appearances.
He enlisted in the the AIF in 1941 and served in New Guinea.
Oakley died on the 8th December, 1980.
