Player Profile

Alby Murdoch came to Essendon from Essendon High School Old Boys as a lightly-built wingman. He had been Best and Fairest in the Essendon District League in 1956.

Though small, he was quick, courageous and committeed, and could climb surprisingly high for marks although he didn't always hold them.

Murdoch was originally bound to North Melbourne so he delayed his League entry for three years in order to qualify residentially for Essendon. He won the Most Tenacious Player award in 1959. He was a member of the team which lost the 1959 Grand Final to Melbourne.

He joined Stanhope in 1963 and then went to Brunswick in 1964. In 1965, he then commenced an eight year coaching stint with Strathmore Under 17s that was only broken when he coached Doutta Stars for a season.

Murdoch died on the 15th December, 2010.
