Player Profile

Ned McSweeney was a rugged follower and defender from North Melbourne (VFA).

He was a good, solid player and was chosen in the League side against a Country team in 1927.

McSweeney later played with Brunswick Seconds and then became captain-coach at Warrnambool for a season.

He served in the Army during World War II and spent some time as a prisoner of war in Singapore. He was extremely debilitated when he returned to Australia and he went to live in Albury.

He returned to Windy Hill as a trainer but was forced to resign in 1954 due to employment demands. The 1954 Annual Report thanked him for his services and wished him well in the future.

Ned McSweeney died on 7th March, 1972, in Albury.
