Paul McDonald was a centre half-forward who came from Keilor to the Essendon Under 19s in 1974, who had a successful career in the lower grades, but struggled to get a regular senior game.

He won the Under 19s Most Consistent Player in 1974, the Reserves Best First Year Player (1975), the Reserves Most Consistent Player (1977) and the Reserves Second Best and Fairest Player (1978).

He played 10 senior games between 1975 and 1978.

McDonald returned to Keilor in 1979, then joined Subiaco in Western Australia in 1980.

He then played with Prahran from 1981 to 1985, and with Port Melbourne in 1986.
