Bert McComb was born in Frankston and played his junior football there.
He was a follower and defender who played the first three games of the 1925 season with Essendon then left Windy Hill and joined Hawthorn that same season, their first in the VFL. He played a total of 18 games for Hawthorn in 1925, 1928 and 1929. In between time he played for Stawell in 1926 and 1927.
McComb then returned to Frankston in 1930 and later was captain coach of Port Campbell in 1936 and 1937 leading them to premierships in both seasons.
He spent 18 months in the AIF during World War II but did not serve overseas.
McComb worked as a bricklayer with Australian Paper Mills in Fairfield and then became a laboratory assistant there until retirement.
Bert McComb died on 24th December, 1981.
