Gary Lowe was a defender who came from the Essendon District League and played eight games in 1974 and four of these were as a reserve.
He was runner-up in the 1972 Under 19s Best and Fairest Player award - his twin brother, Peter, was the winner. In 1975 he won the most votes in the Gardiner Medal but only ran equal third in the Club's Reserves Best and Fairest award.
Lowe left Essendon to join Northcote in 1976 and won their Best and Fairest Player award. He retired after the 1977 season due to recurring leg injuries. He suffered a massive heart attack in 2019 but recovered.
