Stan "Snowy" Lawler came to Essendon from South Melbourne where he had played two games. His original club was Kensington but he went to South Melbourne from Preston Seconds in 1928. He didn't make his senior debut until Round 17 in 1930 then was dropped when it was discovered that he wasn't residentially qualified to play for South. He played one game in 1931 but injured his knee and missed the rest of the season.
He spent 1932 with VFA team Camberwell before coming to Essendon in 1933.
He kicked four goals on debut in a Round 5 loss to his old club, South Melbourne. He again kicked four goals in his next game, which was a Round 6 loss to Fitzroy. His last game was in Round 11, which Essendon lost to Collingwood.
He transferred to Williamstown in 1934 and played 62 games there from 1934 to 1938. He also kicked an impressive 212 goals. He was their leading goalkicker in 1935, 1936 and 1937, and sits ninth on Williamstown's all-time goalkicking list.
He played the first game of the 1939 season with Williamstown then crossed to Preston where he played eight games that year. He played two games for Yarraville in 1940.
He trained at Carlton during 1940 but played no senior games. He enlisted for service in World War II but no further details are known.
Lawler died on 26th March, 1958.
