Player Profile

Gavin Keane was a talented wingman who came to Essendon from St Bernard's and turned in some fine games in 1987. He won the Best First Year Player award that year.

In an interesting piece of trivia, there were two games in 1988 when five ex-St Bernard's boys played together: Keane, Paul Hamilton, David Johnston, Simon Madden and Garry Foulds. The games were Round 9 v Brisbane Bears, and Round 10 v Sydney, for a win and a loss respectively.

In 1990, Keane was traded to Brisbane for picks 19 and 65. He played seven games for Brisbane, all losses.

He later played for Williamstown (VFA).

Keane was involved in the production of the early issues of The Bomber and later served on the committee of the Past Players Association.
