Alf Jackson played 12 games in 1907 and only one in 1909.

He enlisted in the 1st AIF in 1911 and served with the 7th Battalion. He was wounded at Gallipoli but returned after treatment and took over command of the Battalion. He was later promoted to Lieutenant-colonel and took command of the 60th and later 58th Battalions in France. He was Mentioned in Despatches in 1918 and appointed a member of the Order of Australia in 1919.

He also served as Lieutenant-colonel in the 3rd Ambulance Brigade during World War II.

He played for the Australian Training Units team in the famous Pioneer Exhibition Game in London in October 1916. Fellow Essendon player, Bill Sewart played for the winning Third Division team. A brief newsreel film was made of the game.

Jackson died on 21st September, 1964.
