Eric Coutts was a half-back flanker who arrived from Daylesford where he'd played from 1932 to 1935. He had also had a stint at Castlemaine in 1935.

He played one game with Essendon in late 1936.

In 1937 Coutts played with Maryborough when he was transferred in his employment and he was then captain-coach of Colac in 1938 and 1939.

After returning from service with the RAAF during World War II, he played with Phillip Island from 1945 to 1948.

A schoolteacher, Coutts retired in 1975, and died on 16th August 2001.
