Bobby Byers was a half-back who came to Essendon from Napier Imperials and played in the VFA team in 1894 and 1895. He was a member of the 1894 premiership team.

He then moved to Western Australia and played with West Perth from 1895 to 1897 and then Fremantle from 1898 to 1900.

Byers was 30 years old when he returned to Essendon to play his one League game, a Round 1 loss to Collingwood in 1901.

He then went back to Western Australia where he played with East Fremantle from 1902 to 1904 before going to South Fremantle from 1905 to 1908. He captained that club in 1908.

Byers died on 17th December, 1972.
