Alex Browne was recruited from Oakleigh Chargers at pick 48 in the 2010 National Draft. He made his senior debut in the Round 11, 2011, loss to Melbourne at the MCG.
He was a midfielder who had the athleticism, height and skill to compete on the inside in the modern game. He played 17 games in the VFL in 2013 and looked like playing more games in the AFL the following season. A solid 2014 pre-season had Browne looking towards a break-out year but he sustained a season-ending knee injury in a pre-season game against Gold Coast in February requiring a full knee reconstruction. This ended his second full season.
Browne, who played with both dash and aggression, was back in 2015 playing three games for a career total of 11 games overall. He won the Sir Doug Nicholls award in 2015 as the best player in the Sir Doug Nicholls Cup, a game played each year between the Essendon and Richmond VFL teams.
He played in only one win in his 11 games.
He was delisted at the end of the 2015 season and later played one game with VFL team, the Northern Blues.
Browne's father, Murray, played for Collingwood and Fitzroy. His mother was one of Carlton's Bluebirds, a squad of twenty professional dancers who performed at Carlton's home games.
