Bill Box was a rotund centreman who came from Whitton where he played from 1952 to 1957. He played one season at Essendon, 1958, appearing in nine games between Round 2 (an away loss to St Kilda) and Round 22 (an away win over Richmond).

He then returned to Whitton as captain-coach in 1959. Box then became captain-coach of Culcairn for 11 years and in between also had stints as captain-coach of Barham, Henty and The Rock over a twenty-year period up to 1980.

He died in July 2006.
