Player Profile

Edric Bickford was half-forward who played one game in late 1912 before transferring to Essendon 'A' where he played in 1913 and 1914.

A confectioner, his football career was interrupted when he enlisted in the 1st AIF in 1915. He saw action at Gallipoli and on the Western Front and didn't return to Australia until 1919. He resumed his football career with Carlton where he played 21 games between 1920 and 1922.

His son, George, was the best player for Melbourne in the 1948 Grand Final - ironically against Essendon. George's son (Edric's grandson), Stephen Bickford, played 15 games for Melbourne in the early 1980s.

Edric's brother, Albert, played with both Carlton (two games, 1906-1907) and Melbourne (nine games, 1908-1909).

Bickford died on 15th November, 1956.
