Greg Bell was a strong, courageous defender who came from Rupanyup and showed excellent promise, winning Essendon's Best First Year Player award in 1975. He was a good mark and a fine kick.
He unfortunately suffered a severe knee injury half way through his first year which also put him out for the 1976 season.
When he returned in 1977, he could not recapture his earlier form. He was named the Reserves' Most Courageous Player in 1978.
Bell joined Croydon in 1980 where he spent four years as captain-coach and then three more as a player before retiring at the end of the 1986 season.
After retiring he worked in the building industry for many years, making and installing kitchens.
