Player Profile

Graeme Beissel was a strong, courageous centreman who came from University High School. He took a good mark and had a fair bit of pace. He was a wanderer on the field but seemed to bob up in the right places.

Beissel starred in the centre in the 1962 premiership victory. He then caused a surprise in 1963 when he stood out of football to concentrate on his university studies. When he returned in 1964, he was struck down with injury and he retired at the end of the year. He was, however, still equal third top Essendon Brownlow Medal vote scorer in that year.

After leaving Essendon, he went overseas for seven years and then settled in Sydney.
