Terry Cahill was a talented rover who came to Essendon from North Ringwood.
He made his debut in mid 1976 in a win against Footscray and went on to play nine games in his first year, kicking three goals in consecutive weeks against North and Collingwood and picking up the Essendon Best First Year Player award that year.
Cahill then succumbed to a shoulder injury followed by a bad ankle injury which restricted his opportunities. He had an interrupted 1978 but did manage 15 games despite persistent injury problems. The Club and supporters were outraged when he was king-hit by St Kilda's Carl Ditterich in 1978. Fears were held for his future but he recovered and played for the rest of that season.
He then took off 1979 and tried making comebacks in 1980 before his ankle injury ended his League career.
Cahill became a school principal after his retirement from football.
