John Holligan came from Marylebone FC in the Geelong and District Football League. It is now known as East Geelong.
He played only one game in late 1902 and then four more in early 1903.
He was admitted to the Kew Asylum in October 1903, suffering from delusions and discharged in April 1904, but was admitted again in July 1909.
His brother, Joe, played two games for Geelong in 1913. Teddy and Mick Holligan, who both played for Geelong in the same era, may also have been his brothers.
Holligan died on 13th September 1939.
