Clarrie Hearn was a talented and athletic half-back and full-forward who was very quick and a good mark and kick, although his ball handling was chancy at times.
He came from Rutherglen and was Essendon's third top goalkicker in 1931. He booted seven goals in a game in both 1932 and 1935, six goals in 1931 and five goals twice in 1931.
Hearn was selected in the League side to play the Association in 1934 but injured his hand at training so missed the game.
After leaving Essendon, he was captain-coach of Sandringham in 1936. He took up umpiring in 1937 and officiated in 12 games as a boundary umpire.
Hearn was also a top sprinter and won the Stawell Gift in 1929, emulating the feat of George Stuckey in 1897.
Clarrie Hearn died on 1st April, 1981.
