Shane Harvey was drafted by Essendon with their first draft pick (number 18 overall) in 2001. He made his debut in Round 6, 2002, against Fremantle at the Subiaco Oval, kicking three goals in a losing team.
Harvey managed seven senior games in his debut year, playing well for the remainder of the season in the VFL.
In 2003, Shane played four games before informing the club of his decision to quit the Club. He was then delisted and was drafted by North Melbourne in the 2004 Pre-season draft with their pick 6. He played four games for the Kangaroos before being delisted at the end of 2004.
Following his League career, he played with a number of country and suburban teams. He announced his retirement in May 2023 after playing 235 games with North Heidelberg and kicking a record 1048 goals.
