Johnny Hart made his debut against Carlton in mid-1911. He played three consecutive games and then his final game was a 19 goal win over St Kilda in Round 16.

He wasted no time in enlisting when World War I broke out, joining up in August 1914. He served at Gallipoli and in France. He was not wounded but suffered several illnesses, including pleurisy, which led to significant hospital stays. He served in the 1st Divisional Salvage Company and did not return to Australia until 1919. He gave his occupation as miner on his attestation papers.

Hart died on 20th February, 1966.
