Len "Chickenman" Halley was a solid and reliable ruckman who came up through the Under 19s after coming from Healesville in 1966. He won the Under 19s Best and Fairest award in 1968.
He was called up for National Service in 1971 and only managed five games that year.
He found it difficult to get a regular senior game and he won the Reserves Best and Fairest award in 1973, after coming second in 1971. He was also a member of the Reserves premiership side in 1968. He did, however, win the Best Clubman award in 1972.
Halley joined East Devonport in Tasmania in 1974 and then played with West Perth in 1975 and 1976. He was a member of their premiership team in 1975. After a year with Brunswick in 1977 he then returned to play with West Perth in 1978 and 1979.
He returned to Victoria to became captain-coach of Tatura in 1980 and 1981. He then played with Benalla in 1982 and 1983 and Healesville in 1984. He was captain-coach of Montmorency in 1985 and he played with Warrandyte in 1986.
