Jim McLear's only game for Essendon was in Round 12, 1919, in a 12 point loss to St Kilda.
He enlisted in the 1st AIF on 6th July 1915, giving his occupation as farm labourer. He served in France but returned to Australia in October 1917 after suffering from pneumonia. When World War 2 broke out, he enlisted again, on 23rd March 1942. By now, he was a grocer in Warrnambool. At 45, he was too old for active service so he was assigned to the 8th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps.
He died on 26th November, 1968.
